Helping you find the perfect lip palette for your skin

Lip Palette

A Lip Palette

Have you ever bought a lip palette? Some women swear by these sets while others prefer to use just one shade of lipstick their whole life. Personally I think a lip palette makes a great present even if you are treating yourself.

You can find many different types of lip palette available; some will only include matt lipsticks while others will include lip gloss. Most will not include lip liners so you would need to buy these separately. When applying lip gloss be careful. You don’t put it all over your lips if you are always wearing lipstick as this will cause the lipstick to bleed into your face – not a pretty look. Instead just dab a little gloss in the center of your lips and smooth it out lightly. If you put on too much or it looks a bit gooey, smack your lips between a tissue and this will sort it out for you. Mac and Bourjois 3D Effect are two very popular ranges of lip-gloss.

Applying lip color is an art and one that most of us do not learn but pick up as we go along. When applying makeup, the mantra less is more should be obeyed. It is funny that when men are asked which look they prefer they always say the natural look rather than heavily made up faces. But little do they know that this “natural” look can take so long to learn how to apply correctly. The first tip I can give you is to pick either your eyes or your lips as the focal point of your make up. Heavy eye and lip make up belongs on the stage or in films, not in everyday life. If your lips are your best feature, applying lipstick correctly is a great way to make them sexier and more kissable.

If applying color from your lip gloss palette, pick a shade that suits you. If you are not sure which colors are your best ones, why not book a professional consultation with a color expert. They will give you guidance and help and then you will know for sure what works and what doesn’t. If you like applying lip liner always choose it in a color that closely matches the lipstick. Don’t ever wear darker liner as it just doesn’t work and will look tacky.

Lipstick is such a personal thing. The right color applied in a professional way can brighten up your smile and your entire face. It can make you appear sexier and more kissable. Unfortunately it is a double edged sword as some many women find out. The wrong lip color will make your teeth look yellow. It is worse if you apply it incorrectly as you can easily end up looking like a clown. Add to that the embarrassment factor of leaving a big lipstick stain on the wine glass or walking around with color on your teeth and you can see why some women are scared of makeup.

You can apply the lipstick straight from the box using the clean tip of your finger or you can buy a specific lip palette brush. Neither gives a better result as it depends on which option you are most comfortable with.

If you like brand names, you will probably find your favorite has a lip palette in their range of products. The Bobbi Brown Bobbi’s Picks 7 Lip Gloss Palette is extremely popular while older ladies appear to favor names such as Dior or the Guerlain Eye and Lip Palette. Beware of the really cheap non branded ranges as some can cause irritation and so would be unsuitable as a gift for someone with sensitive skin. That doesn’t mean that all of the top brand names would work either. You can usually find non hypoallergenic ranges for those of us who can react to certain chemicals found in makeup such as lanolin.

You can buy full lip palettes or one that caters solely for lips with another for eyes and even a blush palette. A lot of people like to buy a lipstick palette in a size that fits their purse so they can carry it around during the day to touch up their face when necessary. The huge benefit with these products is that they are worked around a specific color so if you know that a pink based lip color suits you best, you can buy a range of different shades all in one box. Some will be suitable to wear to the office while others are best left for night time.
